This project is part of a national arts programme, Nature Calling, connecting and deepening engagement with the landscape. The aim is to listen to our communities and ensure our landscapes are a place for everyone. Artists David Blandy & Daniel Locke have been working with local schools and community groups, to inspire their project Dawn After Night, Spring After Winter. This has resulted in an evocative game publication of local mythologies and the natural world that will take players through two different interactive nature trails at Hutchinson’s Bank in New Addington, and Box Hill. You can experience these trails online
Information:
This is a free event but booking is essential as places are limited.
Where to meet: We will be gathering at the Nature Calling gazebo on Donkey Green, Box Hill, adjacent to the car park up to 10 minutes before each performance. Saturdays are a busy day at Box Hill so please leave plenty of time to arrive and park if driving.
The route: We are taking the Box Hill accessible route which is suitable for wheelchair users or buggies. The approach is across grassland. There is some camber at the edge of the woodland path but the route is on the flat.
Access:
We will be taking the accessible route from Donkey Green. The journey will start on the grass and enter the woods on a compacted sandy firm foot path. There are no slopes or steps. The trail is less than one-mile on a mostly level surface.
The 1.30-3pm performance is especially for those with mobility difficulties or sensory needs. More time is given to go around the route, accessible exploring zones, a quieter viewing zone, regular stops with seating available, the performers will be briefed on audience profile and extra volunteers available. We kindly ask that if you don’t have access needs, you book another time slot and leave this free for those who do.
There is an accessible toilet near the main car park.
There is Blue Badge Parking available in the main car park near to the Shepherds Hut information stand. There are larger disabled spaces in the smaller Fort Car Park behind the buildings with flat surfaces to the facilities.
